Can you run a car with only starter fluid?
So I drive a 93 honda accord (fuel injected), and for some reason today, in the grocery store parking lot, it would turn over but refuse to start. I luckily had a can of starter fluid in my trunk, I figured I'd use it to help diagnose if it was a fuel issue or ignition issue. It seemed the easiest way to spray it in, was I pulled off a little rubber hose on the intake (think it was the one that leads to the pcv valve), sprayed a little in there, and the car started up. And luckily for me, after about 10 seconds of barely running at all, it started working just fine, drove 15 miles home, even flooring the gas to test the fuel pump, it worked fine, so I'm a little baffled. Maybe it had just got flooded or something. But in anycase, that got me wondering my real question.
Say if my fuel pump had gone out, and I wanted to drive my car a short distance or something. Would it be possible to actually run the car off starter fluid? Like say I disconnected that same pcv hose off the intake, and used some 5-10 foot piece of scrap hose to run from the intake, to passenger seat of the car, where I could have a passenger spray cans of starting fluid through the hose to keep the car running. Would it be possible to drive somewhere off the starter fluid (and without damaging the engine somehow)?
Alternatively, are there any other, possibly better tricks to do in a pinch (on a fuel injected car such as my 93 accord) if your fuel pump ever does go out, in order to drive the car home?
U push too much ether through it you will probably melt the pistons.
Did I ruin my brakes to car?
yesterday i put on my parking brake when i park when i left back in my car i forgot to release the parking brake and i smelled a burning smell i drove about 10 miles like this i didn;t realize till i got home anyways later that day when i left to the store my brake pedal went all the way to the floor after a few pumps they are working but it doesn't feel the same i just had new brakes put in 3 months ago.do you think there ok and if so why did they go to the floor but now are stopping?it's a pontiac grandam with abs brakes thanks
If you have rear disk brakes, the rotor and disks are not used for the parking brake. There is a little set of shoes under the rotor that does this. You would have just worn them a bit. It could have possibly gotten the fluid hot, so please have them bled. If you have rear shoe brakes, then those are used for parking also. I doubt you ruined them, since rear brakes only supply about 20-25% of stopping power. If they were recently changed, I wouldn't worry about it, except for getting them bled. They may need adjustment, which is supposed to occur when you back up and brake, but you really have to hit them kinda hard for it to work. Find someplace where you can back up and hit the brakes hard about 15 times and see if they feel like they did before. BTW, if you have an automatic, you really don't need to use the parking brake, except on a hill.
1993 ford explorer v6 engies stalls and dies please help?
1993 ford explorer v6, it started out dieing while i was driving like i turned the key off but it would restart right away, then it started to sputter and the engine would choke down and die, the fuel pressure was tested and it was low so the fuel pump was replaced, the pressure was normal and it drove good for 2 days i went to go home from work and it would start and die immediatly, i finally got it started and when i was driving home it would run fine as long as i stayed below 50 if i went 50 or more it would stutter and shake and feel like it was gonna die, it also wouldnt take any gas if i pushed the pedal all the way to the floor, i was able to get it home the next day it started fine but when i tried to put it in a gear (reverse, drive or whatever) it would sputter and die, it also died when i had it in park and just tried turning on the ac. now it will startfor about 5 seconds and die right away. also there is no check engine light or any codes showing. can someone please point me in the right direction so im not just guessing and replacing parts, i am a home mechanic and i do most stuff by myself but this has me stumped and is really frustrating. any input would be appreciated.
Sounds like someone forgot the mandatory replacement of fuel filter, should always be replaced when installing new pump. Usually parts house wont warranty new pump unless you replace filter. Only thing I know that won't turn check light on, either that or pump not installed correctly, but change filter first.
